UPDATE: Perlmutter scrapped his challenge to the certification of the electoral college votes after there was no support in the Senate.
In what can only be described as yet another political stunt, Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter is desperately trying to convince his base that he’s really truly a liberal. According, to the Denver Post, Perlmutter will join an official challenge to Donald Trump’s victory last November.
The reason Perlmutter cited for the official challenge? Russia’s alleged involvement in the election. Here’s his quote from the Denver Post:
“This action by a foreign nation was unprecedented, violated our Constitution and undermined the founding pillars of American liberty and democracy. This is not about trying to stop Donald Trump from becoming President. This is about the fact that our liberty, freedom and democracy were compromised by Russia’s intrusion into America’s election.”
Let’s just stop right there.
This lawsuit is absolutely about trying to stop Donald Trump from becoming President. If it wasn’t about that, this would be the millionth time we heard from Perlmutter about his concerns over foreign governments’ hacking our citizens, and, even, our government institutions.
Yet, the only time we’ve heard from Perlmutter on this critical issue is when it affected his political party directly. What about the citizens who have been hacked? What about the members of the media who have been hacked? What about the millions of government workers whose personal information was compromised by hacking?
Where was Rep. Perlmutter then? When will the media ask Perlmutter why he is suddenly enormously concerned with hacking?
