This week, Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran and her fellow Democrats have proven that they value political theater over actually governing.

It started with an absolutely toothless resolution on Tuesday against President Donald Trump’s executive order travel ban, which they then followed with a resolution about abortion, yesterday. Two issues obviously intended to grab headlines and inflame the liberal base.

It’s become quite clear that like her predecessor, former Speaker Dickey Lee Hullinghorst, Duran is more interested in politics than being a leader and working across the aisle. What surprises us, though, is that it took her less than a month to abandon her opening day calls to get “Washington-style politics” out of Colorado. She was even quoted as saying:

“We must rise above ugly politics to forge a new path forward. The people of Colorado are depending on us to make a difference beyond the talking points, the Twitter feeds and the headlines.”

She may as well have said, “Blah, blah, blah…more empty rhetoric.”

Now we’re just waiting for the media to pause their love affair with the first Latina speaker and call her out for this blatantly counterproductive partisanship.
