Colorado Springs Republican Rep. Dave Williams took his fellow Rep. Joe Salazar to the woodshed for using Williams’ race to discredit him from speaking out about sanctuary cities, or cities that shelter illegal immigrants. Here’s what Williams said on the floor to his House colleagues:

“One of our members referred to me as a ‘half Latino.’ This term was used to diminish my standing on this policy issue and to lessen my credibility within the Latino community. These tactics are disgraceful and in poor taste. I’m sorry that my surname doesn’t match my ethnicity or my heritage, but I’m proud of who I am and where I come from.”

Salazar owes Williams an apology, but will he offer one? If history is any indication, the answer is no. Nonetheless, all of those on the left who are upset about racial tensions in this country should be demanding an apology from Salazar for dragging Williams’ race into the conversation.

This isn’t the first time Salazar has said something in poor taste. During a debate over gun legislation, Salazar suggested that women wouldn’t know how to appropriately protect themselves:

“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles,” Salazar said two yeas ago. “Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody.”

Then, there was the time that Salazar retweeted Sarah Silverman who suggested that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker should be anally probed. Ew. And, his offense goes on and on. There’s a reason that Salazar’s mouth has been dubbed a Weapon of Self-Destruction.
