OK, so Mike Coffman bears little resemblance to Brad Pitt (sorry Congressman), but it kind of feels like when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston divorced. Except in Colorado. And among Republicans. This afternoon, power couple U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman and Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman issued a joint statement saying that they planned to divorce. Here’s the statement the dual electeds issued, according to a Joey Bunch scoop on Colorado Politics:

“After much soul searching we have made the painful decision to get a divorce. This has been a difficult choice for both of us and we ask our friends and supporters for their understanding. We have a great deal of respect for each other and will remain each other’s strongest supporters in whatever we do in our continued service to the people of Colorado.”

It’s always sad when a staple of the political world comes to an end, and the Coffmans have been together since 2005 – a long-time fixture. But both are ambitious and talented political animals and this should do little to tarnish their shine. Mike Coffman is a leader in U.S. House of Representatives and seems unbeatable as he has defeated Democrats’ prize candidates over and over again without breaking a sweat. Cynthia Coffman is eyeing a gubernatorial run in 2018, according to sources.

Next year will be a big year for both and soon this will be in the rearview mirror.  Who knows – maybe Cynthia will find her Justin Theroux.
