The major stores are reveling today in Black Friday shopping they hope will fill their coffers for the year.

They’ve filled our newspapers with bundles of advertisements that required a small forest to produce. And that makes it easy for us to forget there are other retailers out there, the local guys, who also need our shopping dollars this holiday season.

So, U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton is encouraging Coloradans to save some of those dollars for Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is a day for Americans to head out into their communities and support locally owned small businesses, Tipton said.

“Small businesses are one of the strongest pillars of our economy. In Colorado, small businesses support 49 percent of our workforce, making our support absolutely vital. That’s why I will be out on Saturday shopping small, and I hope you will be too.”

We’re American, so we’ll be shopping today and Saturday. It’s our patriotic duty. And, we can’t pass up a bargain.
