Former state Treasurer Cary Kennedy took a shot at her millionaire opponent in the Democratic primary for governor saying she’s the strongest candidate because she’s going to win their primary the old fashioned way — campaign donations.
The Pueblo Chieftain writes that Kennedy urged voters there this week to become delegates at the March 6 caucus and support her at the state Democratic assembly.
She didn’t mention U.S. Rep. Jared Polis by name, but the Boulder Democrat and multi-millionaire has already indicated he will use his wealth to pay for his campaign.
Then Kennedy reached into her bag of Democratic tricks and pulled out identity politics, telling the small crowd gathered they “can help elect the first woman governor of Colorado.”
Necks were probably craning to see if Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, also running for the Democratic nomination, had entered the room.
And hello, Jared Polis has his own identify politics card — gay.
Kennedy’s going to need a bigger bag of tricks for this primary. Perhaps she can campaign on her last name.
