A hullabaloo around a letter to the editor in the Denver Post is unearthing new questions about the viability of the Democratic platform. Washington Free Beacon recently reported on the letter by Lakewood’s Suzanne Gagnon that suggested President Trump should be executed for treason. Read the call for yourself:
“If it walks like a traitor, and talks like a traitor, and acts like a traitor … it is a traitor. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were executed on a basis of far less evidence than is had on Trump and many in his administration.”
For those who are not students of the history, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were United States citizens who spied for the Soviet Union and were subsequently executed for their misdeeds in the 1950s. So, by extension, Gagnon is suggesting that Trump should be executed since the Rosenbergs were executed for less, right?
According to newly-minted editorial page editor Megan Schrader, she didn’t read it that way and would not have published a letter to the editor that calls for the execution of a sitting president. Schrader seems pretty level headed, so we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. And really, does anyone think that President Trump is a traitor worthy of execution? No one rational does.
We suspect that this letter speaks more to the lack of viable Democratic talking points than her mental state, but we’ll let the secret service determine whether Gagnon is worthy of further investigation.
Regardless, it’s clear that Democrats are having a difficult time maligning a U.S. President who has delivered historic unemployment and a surging economy – and it shows. This probably isn’t the last of these desperate attempts, unfortunately.
