U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner has proposed an interesting menu of consequences against cyber terrorists who hack our defense systems, utilities or communications.
But first, a bill he authored this week gives the White House the authority to take action with orders that a response be taken.
Items available on the menu of retaliation are:
Cut off foreign aid
Cut off American trade
Cut off access to global financial markets
Some are predicting it won’t be popular with the Trump administration, because Russia, but Gardner begs to differ.
“I think the Trump administration, once we get hearings underway, will be supportive of this measure,” the senator said.
We believe Gardner is right. With cyberterrorism just a click away, Congress needs to take swift action to get measures in place for America to quickly and decisively respond. A well-placed kick in the wallet is a good place to start.
