We knew this was coming. Throughout the campaign, U.S. Representative-elect Jason Crow swore up and down that he would not be a stooge for reviled Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. Strangely, fellow Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter found time and the gumption to sign on to a letter opposing Pelosi; however, Crow can’t seem to find his pen.

The letter seems innocent enough. Here’s an excerpt:

“Democrats ran and won on a message of change. Our majority came on the backs of candidates who said that they would support new leadership because voters in hard-won districts, and across the country, want to see real change in Washington.

“We promised to change the status quo and we intend to deliver on that promise.”

What’s so difficult about signing this letter?

Complicating Crow’s position is the fact that no legitimate challenger to Pelosi has emerged. Crow’s spokespersons confirmed to 9News that he would not simply vote present for the vote. So, as Kyle Clark noted, Crow’s options are to either find someone for which to vote or to break his word. Awkward.

We expect that this will simply be the first in a string of broken promises to voters.
