Gov. Polis says he’s honored and pleased to welcome gray wolves back to Colorado.

Which makes us wonder, did Polis mishear the effort to reintroduce gray wolves as an effort to bring back the gay wolves? That would be the only reasonable explanation for his decision to support something so stupid.

If the wolves have come specifically for the governor, then by all means, welcome!

Not surprisingly, the pack is not being welcomed with open arms by ranchers in the northwest reaches, who could be prosecuted for defending their horses, cattle, sheep or dogs from getting eaten by these predators.

Polis’s reaction to the news the pack is already killing livestock shows just how out-of-touch Democrats are with folks on the Western Slope.

Wildlife officers investigating a cow carcass in northwestern Colorado this week found evidence of at least six wolves, the second indication of the animals’ return this month, prompting Gov. Jared Polis to welcome wolves to the state and urge people to make room.

“This is very likely the first pack to call our state home since the 1930s. I am honored to welcome our canine friends back to Colorado after their long absence,” Polis said in a statement Wednesday confirming the Colorado Parks and Wildlife discovery.

The pack’s presence was announced just days after a ballot measure was approved to ask voters in the November election if Colorado should go full blown with a gray wolf reintroduction to the state.

These few wolves didn’t wander into Colorado to be poster pets for animal activists. They are here to kill livestock and wildlife.

It’s just an amazing coincidence, we’re sure, that the lovely photograph of paw prints in the snow emerged just in time to be that poster.

And Polis thinks it is all freaking awesome!
