President Trump chose Colorado native David Bernhardt, secretary of the Interior Department, to be his designated survivor in case of a catastrophic event while the president delivered his State of the Union address at the Capitol Tuesday.

That means if some terrible tragedy had unfolded at the Capitol incapacitating all of those present — the president, vice president, the entire Congress, cabinet secretaries and Supreme Court — Dave from Rifle would be in charge.

Our homeboy Bernhardt was just a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Meanwhile, Colorado’s U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who represents us in theory while he tilts at windmills in the Democratic presidential primary, was nowhere near becoming president on Tuesday.

According to results that are finally trickling in from the Iowa Caucus, Bennet is running in the rear of the pack, behind “uncommitted,” with a single vote.
