Colorado Democrats voted along party lines to block a request to the White House that intelligence related to the origins of the COVID-19 virus be declassified.

The measure failed on a 216 to 207 party-line vote in the House on Tuesday, although it passed unanimously in the Senate in May.

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley’s bill would have required the Biden administration to declassify intelligence related to any potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origins of the pandemic.

Colorado Democrats voting against transparency were U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette, Ed Perlmutter, Joe Neguse, and Jason Crow.

Republicans supporting the declassification of intelligence included U.S. Reps. Ken Buck, Don Lamborn and Lauren Boebert.

It’s problematic when even the rancorous Senate can come to a bipartisan agreement on the importance of determining the origins of a virus that’s plagued the planet for nearly two years.

That Colorado’s congressional Democrats think their constituents who were affected don’t deserve an answer is the height of arrogance.

Even Democrats deserve better.
