State Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer from Weld County has announced her campaign for the GOP nomination to represent Colorado’s new congressional district.

Kirkmeyer is a former county commissioner and fourth generation Coloradan, and led the state’s Office of Emergency Management under Republican Gov. Bill Owens.

Also running for the Republican nomination are Ryan Gonzalez, Giulianna “Jewels” Gray, and former state Rep. Lori Saine.

Seeking the Democrat nomination are state Rep. Yadira Caraveo and Adams County Commissioner Charles “Chaz” Tedesco.

The new congressional district reaches from the northern Denver suburbs into Weld County, and was drawn to ostensibly give either party a shot at winning.

Although much of Colorado has been conquered by transplant leftists, the speed with which Joe Biden’s popularity is plummeting is also expected to affect these midterm elections.

A new Washington Post-ABC poll shows that if elections were held today, 51% of registered voters would back the Republican candidate with only 41% saying they would pick the Democrat.

Those are “historically strong” numbers for the GOP, the Post reports.

Biden’s popularity is so flat, every single Colorado Democrat who went to the White House for a bill signing Monday posted photos of themselves without the president.

The country’s economy and culture are in dire straits, and candidates should be facing tough questions from the media about the never-ending pandemic, empty grocery store shelves, the government state of mandates and over-regulation, and requiring vaccines to enter a restaurant but not to cross the southern border.

Candidates should be asked about jobs, education, the price of gas and the future of energy as Colorado’s driving economy.

But the media doesn’t think that’s their job anymore.

They’re more interested in getting Republicans on the record to say Biden won the 2020 election to piss off the Republican base, or say Trump was robbed so reporters can call them conspiracy whack jobs.

Meanwhile, Democrats will be asked about issues their social radicals care about like transgender equity, teaching transgender equity to children, race relations, teaching children they are racists or victims, climate change, and raising taxes to hire more bureaucrats to predict the end of the world.

It’s worth noting that Biden isn’t the only one flailing in the polls with a 38% approval rating.

A Gallup poll released last month confirms Americans don’t much care for reporters either, with only 36% admitting they trust the mass media.
