Board president Xóchitl “Sochi” Gaytán says this will be the key focus of the newly elected, union-backed board of Denver Public Schools:

“We know that the employees and the staff of all of Denver Public Schools are working within a racist system.”

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet

PeakNation™ will remember that U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet was the superintendent of Denver Public Schools before he used that as a springboard into politics.

And, all of northeast Denver still remembers that Bennet is the one who shut down Manual High School.

Bennet was attacked for ignoring the community’s wishes and inadequately planning for what would happen to hundreds of displaced students, many of whom would never finish high school.

We look forward to watching how the new school board president, and newly elected vice president Tay Anderson, define how that racist system came about.

Chalkbeat revisited Bennet’s record as Denver’s school superintended when the Democrat decided he didn’t want to be our senator anymore and ran for president.

Since Bennet came in next to dead last in the presidential race and has decided he wants this Senate job after all, the media should revisit that record and determine whether Bennet’s actions as school superintendent are to blame for creating a racist system.
