The Republican field competing for the privilege of representing Colorado’s new 8th Congressional District in Congress got some good news this week.

Voters are so fed up with empty store shelves, inflated high prices and Democrats generally running America into the ground, they’re more likely to cast ballots next year for the GOP.

Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann threw her hat into the ring this week for the Republican nomination, joining Weld County Commissioner Lori Saine, state Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer, businessman Ryan Gonzalez and Giulianna “Jewels” Gray.

In a video announcing her campaign, Kulmann described herself as a mom, a mayor, an engineer, and a fighter who can solve problems without abandoning her values.

“As an oil and gas engineer, when I see a challenge I find a solution. I helped to build a charter school to give parents more choices for their kids. I stood with small businesses when COVID restrictions went too far. I increased funding for law-enforcement. Defund the police? Not while I’m mayor.”

Running for the Democrat nomination are state Rep. Yadira Caraveo, Adams County Commissioner Charles “Chaz” Tedesco, and California native Johnny Humphrey, an LGBTQ+ nonprofit consultant.
