Mike O’Donnell of Yuma County has announced his campaign for the Secretary of State seat currently held by Democrat Jena Griswold.

O’Donnell will face former Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Pam Anderson in the June Republican primary. The winner will take on Griswold in the November primary.

With a background in economic development, O’Donnell heads Colorado Lending Source, which is the largest SBA lender in the state, reports the Sterling Journal Advocate.

In addition to safekeeping election integrity in Colorado, O’Donnell pledged to clean up voter registration rolls.

O’Donnell also noted the importance of the office to the business community.

“That office is, or ought to be, a business office serving the entire business community as well as all the voting citizens of Colorado,” said O’Donnell. “It seems to have strayed from both paths.”

“Unfortunately, as is all too common these days, some elected officials seem to forget why they were elected and get carried away by the power that comes from holding public office.”

We agree the Secretary of State’s office under Griswold has become overtly political and is in dire need of new leadership.

We welcome O’Donnell to the race.
