An alert reader reminded us of this gem from U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper during an interview a year ago with KBCO’s Bret Saunders, wherein Hick wrongly predicted the inflationary pain caused by Biden’s so-called COVID relief bill wouldn’t hurt that much.

“If inflation goes up a little bit… it’s not the worst situation,” Hick blundered in the March, 2021 interview.

That’s at around the two minute mark. Listen nearly 13 minutes in when Hickenlooper once again ignores warnings from Republicans that spending nearly two trillion would spark inflation.

“I think the risk of going too small in this relief bill is, if we don’t go big enough we are putting a whole generation at risk. If the economy stagnates for eight or 10 years with slow growth. You know, we really we do risk a whole generation and I want to make sure I’d rather err on the other side.”

He erred all right. Biden, Hick and the Democrats erred our arses right into out-of-control inflation, grocery prices jumping regularly, gas prices along with it, and mothers begging for baby formula to feed their infants.

Without a hint of irony, Hick now tells the media that inflation is suddenly a big deal for everybody everywhere he goes in Colorado.

Hick seems truly surprised to discover folks are suffering, then blames Vladimir Putin, corporate greed, and Big Beef.

“There are a number of companies in the meat processing business that are causes.”

He did not indicate whether he believes companies based in Eastern Colorado are at fault.

As our alert reader also pointed out, The Economist disagrees with Hick’s excuses:

“Uncle Sam has been on a unique path because of Mr Biden’s excessive $1.9 trillion fiscal stimulus, which passed in March 2021. It added extra oomph to an economy that was already recovering fast after multiple rounds of spending, and brought the total pandemic stimulus to 25% of gdp—the highest in the rich world. As the White House hit the accelerator, the Fed should have applied the brakes.”

In other words, it’s not the fault of Putin or corporate America’s, it’s just bad governing by the Democrats in charge of the (checks notes) government.
