Unless Republican-turned Democrat state Sen. Kevin Priola can completely change his political stripes and abandons his pro-gun, pro-life stances, his days hanging out with the progressives are sure to be numbered.

And so are his days as a state senator, predicts Dick Wadhams, a political consultant and Colorado’s former head of the Republican Party.

Priola is now the target of a GOP-backed recall campaign that will be decided by constituents in Priola’s new district that leans decidedly GOP.

Wadhams says Priola should be recalled for masquerading as a Republican in his 2020 reelection campaign, only to vote with Democrats on higher property and gas taxes, plus liberal drug policies and “safe-injection sites” for drug abusers.

After Priola is recalled or resigns in the face of a recall, it is rumored he will run for Adams County commissioner or even for Congress in 2024 in the new 8th Congressional District when Republican Barb Kirkmeyer wins that seat this year.

The brutal truth for Priola is that all those votes for tax increases and soft-on-crime policies will not matter one bit for activist Democrats. Their obsession with abortion and guns will prompt strong opposition to him in a Democratic primary for any office. Pro-life Democrats are not to be tolerated.
