Democrats are subverting Democracy yet again with another state lawmaker quitting before the end of their term so that party insiders instead of district voters can select the successor.

For those keeping score, the sudden retirement of Democrat state Rep. Said Sharbini of Brighton means that 27 of Colorado’s 100 state lawmakers were put in office by a party vacancy committee.

That’s 21 Democrats, and 6 Republicans.

Fool us once, shame on you.

Fool us 27 times and pass a damn law to fix this scandal.

Democrats are clearly taking advantage of the vacancy committee process to avoid the risk of losing a seat if special elections were required.

PeakNation™ will bitterly recall the vacancy committee is how we ended up with this fool.

Sharbini was elected last year to succeed Yadira Caraveo, who was elected to Congress to represent new 8th District.

Colorado Public Radio reports public service was too much of a financial strain on Sharbini, whose day job is as a lawyer.

“The compensation offered for the responsibilities and commitments of this role has not been commensurate with the cost of living and my family’s financial needs,” he wrote in his resignation letter. “Doing this work has taken my focus off other ventures that have sustained me through my time here, and has caused a financial strain that can no longer be endured.”

The state legislature is only in session for 120 days a year for which Sharbini earned $42,000. They also get paid milage and per diem.

The concept of a citizen legislature just eludes some people.

Sharbini also complained about the vitriolic atmosphere of the General Assembly, as did Democrat state Rep. Ruby Dickson of Greenwood Village who announced her resignation earlier this month.

Dickson replacement will also be selected by a partisan Democrat vacancy committee instead of voters.
