A measure to cap annual property tax increases to 6% was killed this week in committee by state Democrats who have become completely numb to the pain felt by homeowners paying upwards of 25% more this year, thanks to Bidenomics.

Senate Bill 24-144 was sponsored by Republican state Sens. Kevin Van Winkle and Mark Baisley.

It was killed by the Senate Finance Committee Democrats without a hint of remorse.

Baisley said capping tax hikes is not as complicated as Democrats pretend.

“Colorado families cannot afford these astronomical tax increases, and they certainly can’t afford the lackluster solutions my Democrat colleagues are offering. We could have ended the property tax crisis right here and now had the Democrats supported this very simple bill,” Baisley said.

Added Van Winkle: “Thanks to the Democrats’ refusal to cooperate with us, I fear there will be Colorado families who will now be priced out of their homes. We offered a very simple solution that would have provided real relief for Coloradans, but the Democrats opted to put politics over people. I am extraordinarily disappointed that they killed this bill.”

It’s an election year, and voters should start paying attention to their Democrat state lawmakers who pretend they want to fix skyrocketing property taxes but keep voting against capping the inflated rates.

The Democrat senators on the committee in which this tax cap was killed includes Kyle Mullica (Adams County), Chris Kolker (Arapahoe and Jefferson), Janet Buckner (Arapahoe), and Chris Hansen (Denver).

You’re welcome.
