Democrats are playing their favorite reindeer game in Washington, D.C. this week, voting in lockstep to reject a stopgap funding bill then blaming Republicans for trying to shut down the government.
It’s tiresome, and yet the masses fall for it every single time.
The 1,500-page continuing resolution was pared down to 116 pages, but President-elect Trump insisted on a debt-ceiling provision.
From the Wall Street Journal:
Trump had told Republicans that he wanted a stopgap bill that included disaster relief and aid for farmers. He also wanted the bill to raise or eliminate the nation’s debt ceiling, which must be adjusted regularly to allow the U.S. to continue paying its creditors and avoid default.
He demanded Republicans drop what he called “bells and whistles,” a reference to a slew of unrelated provisions in the original bill. He also threatened that any Republican who opposed a debt-ceiling adjustment would face a primary challenge in the next election.
Among Colorado’s delegation, Republican fiscal hawk Doug Lamborn who did not seek reelection was one of 38 Republicans voting against the measure.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert voted in favor.
All of Colorado’s Democrats voted in lockstep with the 197 other House Democrats, then immediately started blaming Republicans for a government shutdown.
The Republican Party is taking orders from unelected billionaires to shut down the government.
Billionaires like Donald Trump and Elon Musk won’t feel the impact. But their self-inflicted chaos will mean troops won’t get paid and low-income families will lose their food…

Just to keep the drama in context, if a bill is not passed by midnight tonight, it would be a partial stoppage with all critical services still functioning.
The government doesn’t even work on weekends so no paychecks would be issued until after the Christmas holiday anyway.
Congress will likely stay in session through the weekend until an agreement is reached, so all the drama Democrats can just give it a rest.
And by the way, Brittany, only lawmakers who actually have voting power and use it to vote against bills are responsible for their failure.
Shutting down the government and the services that so many rely on would hurt the military, our national security, our economy, and hardworking Coloradans.
Let’s be clear: Republicans and Elon Musk will be responsible if the government shuts down.
