Scheming, scheming. It would appear that two-time Douglas County School Board loser and ACLU plaintiff against school choice, Kevin Leung, has an awful lot to share regarding how to recall an elected official in Colorado. Here’s what he had to offer Facebook buddy who requested information on the topic:
The question is whether Leung is ready to act – he certainly seems to be armed with information. The truth is that the Douglas County teachers union cannot stand the success that the district has found because it proves the point that unions are detrimental to kids’ educations. Further, the Douglas County successes have captured national attention. From The Colorado Observer back in October 2013:
“Douglas County has put the tenets of contemporary reform to work–but with an unusual, and unusually ambitious, twist,” read a report from the American Enterprise Institute, a well-known national think-tank that supports shaking-up the education status quo.
“The district’s distinctive aim of going from good to great, rather than from poor to passable, is remarkable in the annals of contemporary school reform. For Douglas County, school choice is not seen not as a ‘ticket out’ of failing schools, but a way to encourage customization and to offer more paths for students to choose,” the report added. “Teacher evaluation is viewed less as a tool to weed out poor performers than as a tool for helping good teachers get better and to help reward outstanding performance.”
While union lackeys in Douglas County may be gearing up for a fight, Douglas County’s success marches on. When push comes to shove, it’s going to be pretty difficult for unions to argue that parents should have less choice in education when their kids are clearly thriving.
No, Cheryl, you saw a #FIREFAGEN sticker. School superintendents are hired, NOT elected. The BOARD is elected. Fagen cannot be recalled, but she can and should be fired. I encourage you to research what is happening in DCSD…there's lots of bad stuff, and it all flows from the board and the superintendent. Did you know that not one of DCSD's high schools is ranked in the top 10 in CO? Not even in the top 10 in CO, not nationally! This is THE wealthiest, and one of the largest, school districts in CO, and not a single school is ranked in the top 10 in CO? Doesn't that strike you as wrong? DCSD used to have multiple high schools in the top 10…now, not a single one. DCSD also lost its "Accredited with Distinction" endorsement from the state. Things are going downhill in DCSD, and they're doing so very quickly!
This article is devoid of any *actual* reporting or, really, any facts at all. It's just another propaganda piece by an ideologue masquerading as a reporter. I'm happy to provide you with information about how this board has injected politics into our school system, rather than keeping issues of education a non-partisan affair, as they should be. Please let me know if you'd like any additional information on how this board and superintendent are harming DCSD and our children!
You're joking, right? Where exactly are these so-called benefits and evidence? Is it DCSD losing it's highest accreditation standard? Oh, how about student's test scores plummeting compared with other Colorado districts? Is it the 70% turnover in administrators in the last 4 years? Maybe it's the mass exodus of excellent teachers leaving the district? I see all of this stuff, but I fail to see where these misguided policies are "working." You people are delusional.
LOL. After all the screaming about how recalls are "wrong, costly, stupid and unnecessary," and changing the laws to make it harder, NOW they like it. LOL LOL LOL. Hypocrites and liars.
Now what I saw yesterday makes sense….Driving home from dropping my daughter off at RCHS I saw a mini van with "recall Fagen" and a bunch of other nonsense about how Douglas County School district harms teachers and kids and I thought didn't we already decide this issue. So it looks like the sore losers are trying to change the election results.
