It looks like New Belgium is finding that it can’t have its beer and sell it, too. We reported earlier this week that New Belgium’s discriminatory hiring practices and embrace of all things anti-fracking and anti-energy development ran smack into the economic realities of a small mining town.
Not accustomed to dissenting points of view, the brewer was shocked that an entire town would boycott the brewer after the brewer funded the very organization that is suing to close down a mine in town that employs over 200 people.
What’s an out-of-touch greenie to do? Take after the exalted leader, of course. Hold a Beer Summit with local purveyors of the suds. While the folks in Craig said the New Belgium representatives were congenial enough, Craiggers are not budging.
“Craig business owners said they don’t care where the money went; New Belgium supported a group that could kill the livelihood of Craig.
“It’s the company they supported. Regardless of how they supported them, they’re supporting them,” said Lori Gillam, owner of Stockmen’s Liquor.
The article also noted that New Belgium was working to regain the trust of Craig citizens. How about not funding radical environmental terrorists that want nothing more than to wreak economic destruction on this small town? That would be a first step.
With all of the left-leaning activism coming out of New Belgium from not hiring Republicans to sending letters opposing fracking to this, we say don’t back down now, Colorado. We propose that those working in the energy industry as well as any non-Democratic beer drinkers give New Belgium the middle finger.
That’s right, we’re calling for a boycott across Colorado of New Belgium products. Do it now, PeakNation™. Do it for Craig.
Good for Craig.. I quit drinking New Belgium years ago. They were my favorite beer. Were being the key word!
As a person that works in Wyoming and in the energy industry I support Craig and am boycotting Flat tire but the again I hate their beer, I drink Guinness
Forget a state wide protest, think large scale, let's boycott it by every hard working energy producing employee in the nation. Lets put them out of business and see how they like it.
WHY,are still going to starbucks, bank off the west
so your saying you like crap beer,no wonder you think fat tire is over rated you have no taste.
New Belgium Beer is sold from New York, to California! Good luck with that little boycott.. On the Bright side I wonder if the creators of South Park will get wind of this, and make an episode about this silly little Craig Colorado.
January Zaledzieski: Ashamed of Craig.
It's easy to be ignorant.
I have seen the list of companies that have donated to WildEarth Guardians and I can’t help but wonder why we have not boycotted City Market for not shutting down Starbucks; they are on that list as well. What about Bank of the West? Are the business owners who so proudly pulled New Belgium and Breckenridge beers still making deposits into a bank that is just as guilty (according to the list)? Why haven’t we vilified and boycotted them all? How do we pick and choose who’s guilty? Hypocrisy is an ugly thing and this situation has shown me just how ugly Craig can be.
Fuck craig!
Didn't like it anyway!
I also add Breckenrige Brewery to this. Never again for me. Shared plenty with friends, but no more. Back to Miller High Life for me.
They also support the lefties that don't want Glade lake. Wonder if they will be the first to quit using water when there is no more like California. I also wonder how much damage could have been prevented had we had Glade to take some of the flood water and store it. Maybe people down stream should look at legal action against the group who dot want glade.
I work at Deserado in western Colorado and I, like most coal miners love beer, and will not now or ever drink a beer that is brewed by a company that would support the elimination of people's livlyhood. "Wild earth guard my ball sack" can kiss my white ass.
As the wife and mother of Colorado coalminers and now Montana do not drink any New Belgium beer product! We lived and worked in Craig for 28 years raised a family there and have already seen the loss of business' due to government raping of the area-they only know where the western slope is when they want to hunt or take our water. Do you remember in the 80's when Larry Polich wanted to become part of Utah because of how the Craig area was neglected and treated-I beat Danny Griffin does-people don't understand western coal and our air. Go Craig you have always been a strong town we will help you win this battle!
As a coal miner this tastes a lot better than any of their beer ever did!
Fat Tire went flat in Craig, Colorado I like the idea of state wide boycott. How about you people in the great state of Wyoming?
Damn right
I know people in Craig, and now new Belgium is trying to reach into florida, I'll spread the word about flat tire and how out of touch they are. Hello, if them folks in Craig ain't got $, can't pay for your beer, duh!
Fat Tire over rated. I support Crag CO. I like PBR.
I have alot of family that lives in Craig. And some of them working in those very mines, hitting too close to home. No more new belgium!
Just had a Fat Tire! My last one ever….
Good beer, bad politics. When will people learn that busieand politics don't mix. No matter what your position you're going to piss off a lot of customers
