The debate over the budget rages on Under the Dome.
Despite the Democrat-controlled Senate Finance Committee voting unanimously to support a budget resolution that reduces the state revenue projections by a paltry 2.75%, Senate Majority Leader John Morse refused to let the resolution be debated on the Senate floor this morning.
Sen. Morse instead sent a petulant letter to leadership in the House full of hand-wringing about the difficulties of cutting state government programs.
Morse just doesn't get it. Colorado must STOP spending money that it doesn't have. Setting a budget target that is realistic is only the first step in the process and, to be fair, there are many hard choices yet to come. But we have to start somewhere.
Kudos to Democrat Sens. Guzman, Giron, Johnston, and Jahn for having the courage to stand up to Morse and vote to reduce state spending.
Hopefully, when the resolution is finally debated before the entire Senate, more Democrats will have the guts to the right thing.
I’m pretty sure that the only Dems with guts are Morse, Shaffer, and the other leaders who did the right thing and tried to kill this arcane “resolution”!
Why is “resolution” in quotation marks? Are you implying it doesn’t actually exist?
No one’s tried to kill it yet. It passed out of committee unanimously. Morse is using his power as majority leader to keep it from debate. That’s cowardice, not courage.
It’s meaningless like most resolutions are. And thank god Sen. Morse is the only Adult in the room. This resolution does have potential to set a horrible “standard”! To quote some of my misguided Repugs.
Morse need to quit whining, take initiative, and do what’s right for Colorado. It’s time to cut the budget.
to kill TABOR! It is killing effective government and hurts children! Solve the real problem: eliminate TABOR
The Bleeding Heart Morse picture! Nice work COPP!
This resolution is basically meaningless, don’t get me wrong I appreciate the effort, but with people like Morse around in the Senate nothing will change.
How else are they going to get a good quote in the paper?!
He walks around making speeches “for the children” and scaring everyone into thinking the state will have to fire teachers when he needs to actually DO what our kids need most: cut the wasteful spending so our kids won’t have to pay for it later.
Morse and his high-spending ways need to take a breather. It’s time to stop the outrageous spending.
