Always the most popular politician in Colorado poll rankings, Gov. Jared Polis is steadily dropping out of favor with the masses.
Surely some love was lost when Polis’s polices drove small businesses into bankruptcy during COVID as he threatened certain death if we didn’t wear masks.
And the irony of giving Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera an additional six figure salary to operate the Orwellian-named Office of Saving People Money was not lost on Coloradans who soon after could barely afford housing or groceries.
Don’t even get us started on property taxes. Or the homeless. Crime. Migrant crisis. The list is endless.
The polling numbers aren’t important for a term-limited governor, but it’s certainly a warning sign for a politician with presidential aspirations, like Polis.
In 2021, Polis’s poll numbers were strong with a 56% favorability rating. But that dropped dramatically to 49% just a few months later.
In 2023, he was back up to 58% approval rating and a disapproval rate of 35%.
Now he’s treading water at 50% approval and 44% disapproval numbers, according to apoll released this week.
The March 15-19 poll for the Colorado Polling Institute was conducted among 632 likely voters by Democratic pollster Aspect Strategic and Republican pollster New Bridge Strategy. It has a margin of error of 4%.
In a weak effort to spin Polis’s numbers as a positive, the poll compared his popularity to that of Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert.
Seriously, who is surprised that a statewide poll weighted with Democrats would put Polis and Boebert at opposite ends of a popularity poll?
Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet continues to spiral downward with an approval rating of 38%.
Hell, Biden is doing better than Bennet with 45% vowing to vote for him, while Bennet and Trump are tied within the margin of error.
Also underwater is U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper with a 45% approval rating.
