Was it something we said?  In a bizarre twist of events, former State House Representative and current Pueblo County Commissioner Buffie McFadyen has left the CD3 race just little over a month after she entered the race. The rumor was confirmed via her Facebook page:

After a great deal of thought and deliberation, I have decided to withdraw from the 3rd Congressional race.

My decision was made after watching my son at his lacrosse game Wednesday. Timing as the saying goes, is everything. My son is a high school sophomore. After watching his first home game, I realized I’m not prepared to miss his last two years of high school here in Colorado. Time with our children moves much too swiftly and like any mom, I want to spend as much time as possible with my son over the next two years. At least I am hopeful for as much time as a teenager allows….

McFadyen would have squared off against popular Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton.  McFadyen had come under fire last year for (another) bizarre incident in which she and the head of the Pueblo Democratic Party were given a DUI preferential treatment after police found them sitting in a car chatting after attending a hot springs party at a nudist resort.  From our report in November 2013:

She was caught in a rather awkward situation — parked in a dirt lot at night, intoxicated and with a man who isn’t her husband. But she didn’t get a DUI – instead she got a ride home.

Not only is her departure from the race awkward for her, but this is a huge black eye for Colorado Democratic Party Chair Rick Palacio.  Seriously?  This seat was in Democratic hands for three terms and Democrats dumped a ton of resources into the race in 2012.  And, now, they can’t even field a challenger?  Did Sal Pace piss away Democrat’s chances to ever hold this seat again?
