Multiple sources have reached out today to give us the heads up that Rep. Joe Salazar (D-Thornton) is not running for re-election. He has allegedly emailed members of his caucus to inform them of his decision and was supposedly talking to reporters about it.
Considering how much of a “done deal” this sounded a few hours ago, we find it odd that the news hasn’t’ been made public, yet. Perhaps House Democrats are scrambling to find his replacement or persuade Salazar to change his mind? It is one of the few toss-ups in the House, and Salazar only won by 221 votes. Having the seat open would give the GOP an even greater advantage.
Not that Salazar is a strong candidate. His is penchant for putting his foot in his mouth probably doesn’t make his $30,000/year salary as a state legislator worth the headache, so we don’t blame the guy for wanting out. But he has served as a target rich environment that we will miss… in our own way. From his insensitive comments about rape victims to his choice of Facebook groups to the flat out lies he would tell – Salazar is nothing if not entertaining.
So yeah, sit back with us and see how this all shakes out. Something was definitely brewing earlier today and that doesn’t happen for no reason.
