It looks like Brittany Pettersen is giving up her duties as the state senator of the 22nd District representing the people of Jefferson County because she’s more interested in winning the job of congresswoman to replace Ed Perlmutter.

Only her constituents don’t know it, yet.

The Colorado Sun let it slip in a blurb buried in its political newsletter, “The Unaffiliated,” about reassigned committee chairmanships as a result of former Senate President Leroy Garcia’s departure:

“Of note: Sen. Brittany Pettersen, a Lakewood Democrat who is running for Congress, is no longer on any committees.”

Brittany’s official page on the Colorado General Assembly’s website has been wiped clean of all committee assignments and occupation.

According to Vote Smart, she chaired three committees including the Finance Committee, Colorado Health Insurance Exchange Joint Oversight Committee, and the Joint Study Committee on Opioid and Other Substance Use Disorders. She also served as vice chair of the Transportation and Energy Committee.

Serving on committees to craft and move legislation is the core job of a state senator.

Was the heavy lifting just too much work for her while she campaigns for another job in the 7th Congressional District?

She’s not even communicating with her constituents on social media anymore, having converted her Senate Twitter page and 6,000 followers to her congressional campaign, along with her Facebook page the day she announced for Congress.

If she’s not going to fulfill her elected duties, then she should probably return some of that $41,450 salary to the taxpayers she can’t be bothered to work for anymore.

Brittany has been endorsed by every Colorado Democrat with a pulse to replace Perlmutter, including Perlmutter, and is expected to cruise through the party primary.

Running in the Republican primary are Eric Aadland, Brad Dempsey, Laurel Imer, and Tim Reichert.
