Several months back, the union representing RTD called Union Station a “lawless hellhole.” Since then, the rampant crime that’s overtaken the downtown area has only gotten worse.

There was shooting Saturday in the underground bus terminal, and when a CBS Denver news crew showed up to cover the story on Monday, their photographer was assaulted just outside Union Station.

An assailant “hit [the photojournalist] upside the head and threatened to kill him.”

The assault on the CBS Denver photojournalist comes as other local reporters have sought to downplay the crime problem downtown in recent weeks.

Now that Union Station isn’t safe for CBS Denver to even cover in person, certain reporters will emerge from their long-running denial over the decaying state of downtown Denver.
