Republicans have rightfully been giving Gov. Polis a mountain of grief since early spring for pretending like TABOR refunds were one of his accomplishments. Democrats have long opposed refunding taxpayers their hard-earned dollars.
So it seemed odd that Colorado Politics reporter Ernest Luning would jump in the fray now with a game of semantics and take a shot at Polis’s Republican gubernatorial challenger.
#COGov Jared Polis’ GOP challenger Heidi Ganahl claims that calling the TABOR refund a “refund” amounts to trying to pull one over on voters. You know what else refers to the TABOR refund as a “refund”? The TABOR amendment. This is an … interesting attack. #copolitics https://t.co/XK1AghFVEO

Luning is focusing on the wrong word. It’s not “refund” that Ganahl has a problem with, it’s Polis taking credit for the refund along with his other gimmicks claiming to save taxpayers big bucks this year.

She has a point. Reporters have a bad habit of ignoring Polis’s record.
As Governor, Polis enacted 85 new taxes on Coloradans. He’s taking credit for giving back $$ Colorado law (TABOR) requires him to return to the people. And you’re promoting his rhetoric over his record. Unfortunate because you usually do better. #copolitics https://t.co/PfFh5EPvCy

So we’ll give her the last word.
In summary: Under @jaredpolis, Colorado is less safe and less affordable.
Time for a change, time for @heidiganahl #copolitics https://t.co/N1IWfSSZ4m
