Colorado politicians can rest easy now that old curmudgeons are being arrested and jailed for threatening Hell and damnation in the name of Jesus Christ for every sin imaginable from cuss words to disrespecting their elders to, uhm, being the Secretary of State.

In case you missed it, and we clearly did, Colorado State Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for threatening Jena Griswold.

Kirk Wertz faces a felony charge of retaliating against an elected official, although it’s not clear at all what the man was retaliating against her for.

On the morning of June 30, the office of Secretary of State Jena Griswold received a threat from a caller, according to Griswold’s office.

“Hey, I’ve got a message for the Secretary and I want you to pass it along: The angel of death is coming for her in the name of Jesus Christ,” Griswold’s office said the caller stated.

The arrest is the first for an election-related threat since Colorado lawmakers in May 2021 passed legislation criminalizing retaliation against elected officials.

Not to make light of any truly dangerous threat, but for anyone raised in a Christian family, this is a fairly common opening from a parent, grandparent, or aunt ordering you to clean your room, your plate, our your mouth out with soap.

Usually, it’s prefaced with the truly dreaded threat: “I’ll give you something to cry about.”

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is taking the threat very seriously, because he too is an elected official who also happens to be up for reelection.

Nowhere in the story does it say anything about destruction of property, or actual violence against Griswold.

Weiser’s response is also curious, considering this:
