There’s a popular Yiddish adage, “Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht,” which translated means “Man plans, and God laughs.”

We’re certain Gov. Polis is familiar with the proverb.

Polis probably laughs as well when he evades the question of a presidential run and instead assures his staff he “plans” to serve out a second term of governor, if reelected.

Most recently, Polis’s office was asked about his upcoming attendance this week at a Democratic Governors Association fundraiser later with dozens of wealthy donors and another presidential wannabe up for reelection as governor, California’s Gavin Newsom.

CNBC reports:

Vice President Kamala Harris and Govs. Gavin Newsom and Jared Polis are among a group of Democrats who are making moves their associates say appear to be steps to prepare for a White House run if Joe Biden opts not to seek a second term.

… Polis has said he is not running for president, and his team has noted he plans to serve his full term as governor if he gets reelected. Polis campaign spokesperson Amber Miller told CNBC that Polis “is a Democratic Governor running for re-election attending a DGA fundraiser.”

“The governor is just focused on running the state of Colorado, and if he’s re-elected, he plans to serve his entire term,” Miller said in an email.

Then there’s this report of Polis’s presidential fundraising efforts:

California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has sparked rumors that he is considering a primary run against Biden after running ads attacking DeSantis in Florida. Newsom, along with Vice President Kamala Harris and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis have reportedly been reaching out to donors in the event of a 2024 run.

Polis is planning many things — getting reelected governor as a precursor to running for president are at the top of his list — and God will surely laugh.
