The Polis administration is doing a lousy job of keeping tabs on the state’s marijuana businesses and making sure the drugs stay out of the hands of minors, according to a newly released audit.

The State Auditor’s report shows a lack of consistency in the Marijuana Enforcement Division, which failed to inspect 182 of the 567 licensed retail marijuana stores that appeared on at least one monthly targeted inspection report during the four-year period reviewed.

From the report:

Of the 182 stores, 75 were never inspected during the 4 years reviewed, despite the Division inspecting other stores multiple times during the same time period— the Division inspected one store 19 times. Lastly, auditors found that the Division did not complete an underage compliance check for 75 of the 629 (12 percent) retail marijuana stores that appeared on at least one monthly underage compliance check report during the 4-year period.

The audit was requested by Democrat state lawmakers and also found the state tends to be very lax when it comes to any kind of punishment for dispensaries that fail to follow the rules and regulations.

The disappointing results of the audit can be read here.

It certainly fails to inspire confidence in the state’s ability to regulate recreational drugs.

We shudder to think how utterly unprepared the Polis administration will be in trying to regulate the use of newly legalized psychedelics and keeping those out of the hands of our kids.

No word yet on whether the Democrats who requested the audit will do anything about the findings.
