A decent and upstanding conservative with a solid reputation and some strong Republican backing has thrown his hat into the three-ring circus to take on Lauren Boebert in the GOP primary to represent the Western Slope in Congress.

Jeff Hurd grew up in Western Colorado where he’s known as a successful country lawyer who once led the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce.

He’s a family man and a father of five who is dedicated to his church and helping his community.

He’s also got some Republican street cred, with former U.S. Sen. Hank Brown and former state House Majority Leader Tim Foster co-chairing his campaign.

Hurd says it’s critical have a sincere and hardworking representative in Congress who prioritizes the families, communities, and businesses of Western and Southern Colorado.

“Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District needs a representative in Washington, D.C., who is committed to consensus-building and has a proven track record of being part of the solution, not creating more problems,” Hurd said.

“I’m ready to provide serious leadership for rural Colorado,” Hurd said.

Also running in the Republican primary is Russ Andrews, a financial advisor from Carbondale, who said in his April announcement that Boebert has turned off so many conservatives that she runs the risk of losing the 2024 General Election to a Democrat.

Andrews told the Aspen Daily News:

“It’s time for her to move on. She’s puerile, she’s truculent, she’s divisive, she’s not terribly informed, I don’t think. I don’t shoot from the hip. I’m willing to do my homework. I don’t see that from her.”

Admittedly, Boebert will be tough to knock off in the primary, as she’s still popular with her voter base and fully entrenched with the new House Republican scene.

The winner of the Republican primary will likely face Aspen Democrat Adam Frisch, who came within 600 votes of beating Boebert in the 2022 election.
